Containerterminal CSY IJmuiden officially opened

IJmuiden, July 13th 2011 – Zeehaven IJmuiden NV has opened 480 meters of new embankment and 9600 square meters of port area today, for Container Stevedoring IJmuiden (CSY). CSY is an initiative of the Ter Haak Group (THG) and the Seaport of IJmuiden. IJmuiden is fastly becoming the European center and distribution of fish. Container Stevedoring IJmuiden (CSY), located in the Haringhaven, plays a significant role in the transshipment of frozen fish in reefer containers. The new facilities have been built to speed up the process of supply and transportation of these containers.

Transporting frozen fish in containers has become very popular over the last few years, it is because of this that CSY took this initiative. The collaboration between the port of IJmuiden and the Ter Haak Group has proved to be a success: in 2008 Ter Haak’s subsidiary company Barge Company Amsterdam (BCA) transported 2.500 containers containing fish by barges from the Haringhaven to the various deep sea terminals in the surrounding ports. Last year this quantity doubled to almost 5.000 containers.

With a market share of almost 19 percent, IJmuiden is the second largest fish auction of the Netherlands. The realization of the new quay and port area in the center (of the) harbor is a part of the Deep Sea Intercontinental Frozen Fish Centre of Europe (DIFE) program. The transformation of the port allows it to evolve into a logistic hub for fish and at the same time provides opportunities for companies like CSY and BCA.
